Hilgo Bruining is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Full Professor in Neurobiological Developmental Disorders at Amsterdam UMC. He serves as Head of the Section of Developmental Disorders and is the founder and principal investigator of the N=You Neurodevelopmental Precision Center at Emma Children’s Hospital, developed in partnership with Levvel. In addition, he is Chief Medical Officer at NBT Analytics, where he contributes to the application of EEG-based biomarkers in clinical trials.
His work lies at the intersection of clinical psychiatry and translational neuroscience, with a focus on neurodevelopmental disorders including autism and schizophrenia. He is particularly involved in advancing precision psychiatry approaches, integrating neurophysiological markers and multi-modal data to improve diagnostic stratification and individualized treatment strategies. His research also explores the neurobiological mechanisms underlying these conditions, including structural genomic variation, synaptic function, and brain activity patterns measured through EEG.
Prof. Bruining has authored numerous scientific publications in the field of neurodevelopmental disorders and is actively engaged in collaborative research within specialized centers and academic networks. His work aims to translate biological insights into clinically meaningful applications that can improve outcomes for individuals with complex developmental conditions.
